Fall 2014 Men’s Trends Wish List

Thursday, July 31st, 2014

Starting off with a classic, it’s fall’s favorite neutral. You can go gray for the complete look taking advantage of its different shades (yes, we all know there are at least 50 of them) or rather as a base to play with. For the mild winter of the Middle East the silk and cashmere Brunello Cucinelli double-breasted jacket comes as a superb coating option, and the chest pocket adds the opportunity for some color with a lively handkerchief. I’m in love with the woven leather vamp in the Bottega Veneta driver, a clever mix of driving and boat shoe.

And some good news for workoutaholics and hoarders alike – big bags are back. Like the Santiago Gonzalez genuine crocodile duffle bag. Also, extra-large, pashmina-like swathes of fabric, that GQ magazine cleverly named “manket”. Consider the Alexander McQueen felt blanket scarf that offers many ways to drape, wrap, and knot.

This very special ankle boot made it to most of the men’s runway shows in London, Milan and Paris. Change the clothes and keep the boots on, because their versatility allows you to dress up a more casual get-up, like denim, and dress down an uptight suit, for an especially cool and still smart look for work.

You can’t go wrong with these Jimmy Choo Linton men’s leather boots that come with a very classy brogue trim, also a strong trend in this year’s shows. And from Prada another bold option would be the burnished leather double-buckle boot, in a beautiful coffee color that always looks good in the fall.

Checks transitioned from last fall, so you might be in luck if you already made the investment a year ago. Trousers are particularly devoted to in this trend, and we will see patterned slacks taking the streets more than ever. Now, the best part is that they are here to mix! (but never, never match.) I can’t wait to put my hands on these Etro checked skinny wool trousers – they are a particularly tasteful epitome of the trend. Givenchy took it to the accessories, giving us a cool (and ultra-functional) obsedia men’s plaid wool backpack. The final proof this style is no longer relegated to the classroom.

And for the unafraid, the tonal signature Alexander McQueen skull jacquard represents the definite must-have of the season, especially if you consider that blue hues will also be very hip in the fall. And what goes best with it? The Chelsea boots, of course!

We’re Head Over Heels for Statement Shoes this Season

Thursday, March 6th, 2014

“A woman can carry a bag but it’s the shoe that carries the woman – Christian Louboutin” A master in both words and all things shoes. We are true believers here in the office that the statement shoe is an ingenious item for any wardrobe and its showiness is exactly what makes it so versatile. A show stopper of a heel will turn an all-black, inconspicuous outfit into a paparazzi’s dream.

For those of you more daring and playful with fashion like myself then I highly recommend to go all out and wear them with a riot of colour and patterns, creating a total mish-mash. It’s all about having fun and let’s face it, if you have a pair of statement shoes on the are chances are you aren’t trying to hide under the radar so just go all out.
The brilliant news is that it’s not just about heels either – although there are never ending amounts of fabulous pairs. Fashionistas can swap their stilettos for far more practical pairs of slippers, sneakers, preppy mannish loafers and tough-girl boots but still look hot to trot.

It was a hard job but someone had to do it and I slaved away to bring you some of the hottest heels around this season.

1) Pollini 2) Carven 3) Zara 4) Maison Martin Margiela 5) Jimmy Choo 6) Nicholas Kirkwood for Erdem 7) Charlotte Olympia 8)Sophia Webster 9) Miu Miu

Valentine’s Day Gifts – A Guy’s Guide

Thursday, February 13th, 2014

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and can pose a bit of a minefield when choosing a gift for that special man in your life. Men are notoriously hard to buy for and don’t always give much assistance with suggesting ideas for gifts. With this in mind, we spoke to the token male in the office and tasked him with cracking the code and coming up with a few ideas for what to get your man this Valentine’s Day:

Cleopatra’s Spa and Wellness in WAFI – I like to pretend that it is because I’m working in an office full of women and that their femininity has somehow rubbed off on me, but truth be told I’ve always loved spas! Even the most macho guy loves being pampered and what better way than indulging in a massage and a dip in a spa pool.

An ex-girlfriend of mine treated me to a day at Cleopatra’s spa in WIFI and it was amazing. I felt like Mark Anthony – the Shakespearean one not the Latin pop sensation / JLo’s ex-husband – and I didn’t want to leave. Check out the website for details and special Valentine’s Day offers.

MVMT watches – Buying a watch for a man can be tricky, as they vary immensely in style and size and reflect his personality. I personally don’t like chunky watches which weigh down the arm and look like they belong on the dash board of a spaceship, so these pieces from crowd-sourced initiative MVMT are ideal. They are simple, stylish and affordable and are shipped over from the US for free in a matter of days.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, they are offering a 10% discount on all purchases. Log on to for details.

Givenchy Pour Homme Blue Label Aftershave – a bit of a cliché but aftershave is always a winner, as most guys will wear it every day (and some really should). I love Givenchy Pour Homme Blue Label, as girls have said I smell nice when I have worn it and that is the perfect barometer for me! I deviated from this recently and someone said I smelt like their dad, so I advise to stick with what you know!

Givenchy aftershave is available in most department stores and malls in Dubai.

DVDs – again a bit of a cliché, but us guys love a good TV series. Don’t tell anyone, but we are all partial to a bit of a download in Dubai, but what you don’t get with a download is all the fantastic special features loaded on as a bonus. From behind the scenes documentaries, deleted scenes and actor commentary, most box-sets are crammed with hours of interesting (for us anyway!) information.

There are some fantastic ones to choose from, but if you are looking for a timeless classic seek out Band of Brothers, which is basically Saving Private Ryan but across 10 episodes. For something more up to date get hold of Game of Thrones; one of the best shows on TV recently and packed full of interesting special features.

Virgin megastore located in malls across Dubai should be able to find you what you are looking for.

Phantom 2 Vision flying camera – My friend has recently purchased one of these which is basically a camera attached to a mini-helicopter and the pictures have been awesome. Capable of recording video and taking pictures up to an altitude of over 600 metres, the Phantom 2 Vision is packed full of special features including an in-built GPS so it flies back to a specific location if it goes out of range.

Hopefully this blog post has inspired you to find that perfect gift and we wish you a Valentine’s Day full of romance!

Boost Your Skin this Season!

Monday, January 20th, 2014

With 2014 here it’s time to be thinking about healthy living! An area that is often overlooked is skin care, and with so many new products and treatments it can be difficult to know where to begin. Here are some handy tips and product information to kick start your 2014 beauty regime!

Start and end your day with the Liz Earle cleanse and polish which is a gentle cleanser and makes it easy to remove even the most stubborn make up. Follow this with a good moisturizer, L’Oreal has an extensive range of products that come in a variety of formulas for age and skin type. Remember to exfoliate or use a facemask twice a week to remove all the dead skin from your face which can often clog your pores. The Body Shop has a great vitamin E skincare range which is gentle on the skin and is available in both an exfoliator and face mask. For those puffy eyes after the party season use Elizabeth Arden visible difference moisturising eye cream to nourish the delicate skin under your eyes.

Daytime make-up should be simple and easy to achieve each morning. Clinique Anti Blemish Solution foundation and concealer acts as a good base but for those that prefer something lighter, use mineral powders or tinted moisturizers such as Bare Minerals powder or Chanel hydramax tinted moisturiser. YSL touche éclat is great at covering any dark circles under your eyes too. Finish off with a mineral blusher which will be light on your face, Neal’s Yard Remedies offer a range of colours in powder. For amazing yet simple make up tutorials visit Lisa Eldridge’s blog which has video tutorials and make up tips.

Obviously, a healthy lifestyle is important to having healthy skin so this New Year try to drink 8 glasses of water a day and eat lots of fruit and vegetables. When exercising make sure you have a shower afterwards (at least a quick rinse if you’re short on time) as by not doing so can clog pores and create spots – this is especially true on your back. Finally, try and allow some you time to relax, a good way of doing this is a few drops of lavender oil in a bath as stress can be one of the main causes of bad skin.

Sweat in Style!

Monday, January 6th, 2014

A New Year is with us and that inevitable goal to get fit and transform the body you’ve had in hibernation over the past month ready for the fast approaching bikini season.

One of our motivational tips to kick start your exercise regime is to treat yourself to cute workout gear that will help you get fit and stay looking fabulous. While none of us expect to look like a supermodel while we’re pounding away on the treadmill, feeling good while working out can help to boost your confidence, which can in turn help you to work harder and get better results.

One of the best parts of fitness clothing is that you don’t have to try hard, you can be creative to mix and match fun prints and colours. You can wear whatever it is that puts you in a good mood and makes you feel confident.

Within the Sept PR team we are all into range of sports and classes from running, yoga, body combat to our serious addiction to Physique 57. These are some of our current favourite pieces to sweat it out in. And remember, shopping also counts as cardio!

If you don’t know … HE knows!

Wednesday, October 30th, 2013

Dubai-based model and chef, Paul Frangie hosted a launch event for his new online lifestyle show, covering food, fitness, travel and style. The new show premiered, making a delicious debut on the outdoor terrace of the Maya Mexican Restaurant, Le Meridien Dubai Marina.

The event was sponsored by Cointreau, providing guests with delicious strawberry margaritas and cucumber and basil cocktails throughout the evening.

Guests included local personalities, artists and media professionals including Dubai’s own Spielberg – Ali Mostafa! Following a ‘soultastic’ performance by local singer Hamdan Abri, Paul gave the audience a brief speech about his journey and how the awesome and quirky brand name and idea came about.

To finish, everyone was treated to an exclusive screening of the first episode of the online series together with samples of food and canapés. We even got to take home a tasty mini-brownie!

Sept PR would like to thank everyone that came down and supported local talent! A launch has never tasted so sweet!

We ♥ UAE

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

December 2 will mark the 40th Anniversary of the unification of the United Arab Emirates – a reason to celebrate the place we all call home. The team at Sept HQ pulled together some of the reasons why we adore this place, here are our top 7:

  • The sun always shines!  Yes the summer is typically off-the-chart hot but the cooler winters are worth the wait.  As well as aiding us in topping up our healthy glow sunshine has other hidden benefits—like protecting against depression, insomnia, and an overactive immune system – making us happy, tanned and healthy! (Just don’t forget your sunscreen!)
  • Food, glorious food!  We are always amazed at the array of wonderful eateries across the UAE, ranging from 5-star luxury cuisine to the tasty treats sold by vendors in the souqs.  At Sept HQ we work with some of the leading restaurants in the region and have developed a passion for food so Dubai provides us with the ideal setting to get our culinary fix.
  • A cultural melting pot, the UAE has a diverse history and is called home by scores of different nationalities.  We love the wide spectrum of people living and working across the Emirates and are always learning about new languages, cultures, cuisines…and dare I say driving methods!
  • You can dive, dive and dive – OK so the UAE doesn’t boast the best dive sites in the world, but at least you can still get wet pretty much all year just to keep the skills up. We are lucky enough to have a few decent wrecks around and the dive company’s here (Al Boom and Pavillion in particular) offer courses, specialties and local dives pretty much 365, 24/7 so get signed up for your Open Water if you haven’t done so already and then the underwater world is your proverbial oyster.
  • You can drive, drive, drive – let’s face it there is something really fun about taking a 4×4 out to the desert and testing your mettle against the ever shifting sands. It’s nice that you can still drive out of the main city for 20 minutes and be completely alone (the equivalent of a country walk or drive anywhere else I guess) to enjoy some of the desert scenery. Deserts can be quite beautiful and the hypnotic dunes are a great place to get out of the hustle and bustle and mess around with friends. Now that the weather is good, take a picnic or bbq and enjoy what is almost quite literally on most of our back doors!
  • An international hub for all, the UAE is   conveniently located between the East and West, so jet settting, easy access to well-loved tourism destinations, communications and seeing different people from all over the world is the norm.
  • Childhood memories – This is the country we witnessed grow under his patronage Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace. We witnessed the UAE’s transformation over the past four decades and we are proud to be part of its history.

Happy Birthday UAE!

Tricks and Treats from Sept PR HQ

Monday, October 17th, 2011

Halloween is coming up and even if you are not a believer of this holiday it is alright to indulge and have fun with your outfit! Halloween is not just about dressing up as your favorite cartoon character or in some bizarre creation; there are going to be a lot of themed parties, providing the perfect opportunity for you to add your stylish twist to celebrations.  Whatever the dress code make sure you always add your own personal touch to the occasion.

During some plotting and planning at the Sept PR headquarters we decided it would be our duties to share some Halloween tips with you that will give you  inspiration or at the very least, a nod to the right direction.

What to wear?

Glam it up this Halloween with this black dress splattered with gold from GlamOnYou paired with a pair of patent leather heels – you are sure to be the sparkle of the party!

Dare to be adventurous with your outfit choice!  Tired of dressing up as witch, cat or devil?  Halloween costumes don’t need to be cliché, consider investing in bold statement pieces which add the spook factor to an elegant ensemble.  We love Alexander McQueen’s peep toe skull heels – the ultimate in gothic glamour!

If you’re going for a 50s, 60s or 70s, inspired look do not over do it. Pick one particular strong style and focus on it. Keeping make up to a minimal, use nude colors and focus on creating the ultimate hair style or wowing with on-trend make up – we’re thinking beehives and Bardot eyes.

If you are going to create your own costume please be creative and stay away from squeezing yourself into children’s costumers. Please.

Where to go?

Celebrate All Hallows  Eve with friends!  Choose a fun venue to party the night away with your favorite ghosts and goblins.  Our sources tell us that OKKU luxury restaurant and lounge is set to host another legendary Halloween party this year so watch this space!

Trick or treating maybe? (Forever young).

Host a party at your home, but don’t forget to invite your neighbours too or they may get a fright when they see your costumed friends arrive at your building.

If you’re not in the mood to party (hmmm…) then you can always have a night in and enjoy a scary movie marathon.

What to eat?

Chocolate cobweb cupcakes

Pumpkin cheesecake

A cauldron full of punch

Chocolate, ice cream and candy

Candy corn

Black & orange colored anything

Have a happy Halloween all and do send us some pics from your night.

Love, the Sept PR Team
